About UWhub
UWhub is a search engine for content related to the University of Waterloo. A project by Michael Fagan, it is still under construction.
Web Search Features
Most features should be apparent implicitly. One that is not is special content that is displayed above search results. This includes searches for peoples names (needs first and last), course codes (e.g. econ, math 127), weather, map, housing-related terms such as sublet, account pages, varsity teams, radio stations, ISBNs, email addresses, phone numbers, usenet newsgroups, and others. most people search features are currently disabled
People Search Features
Everything is case insensitive (capitals don’t matter). Search for names, UW usernames, email addresses, phone numbers, office numbers, and/or URLs (must be exact). Names do not have to be full (eg. Jenna, John S, D Jones). Office number searching is easy (eg. ESC 130); MC 3 finds all people on the third floor of the math building. You can also combine parts: john nh finds all the Johns in Needle’s Hall. in is a shortcut (instead of using the advanced search), such as Jason in science.
Many Ways to get to UWhub
How it Works
Currently UWhub makes use of data from Yahoo! and then processes them before display, in various ways. Data from UWdir is also used. It can display RSS/Atom feeds using Magpie, including those from Google Groups. UWhub also has its own data to enhance the third-party data.
